Background
Human CD30, also known as TNFRSF8 (Tumor Necrosis Factor Receptor Superfamily Member 8), is a cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily. It is primarily expressed on activated T and B lymphocytes and plays a crucial role in immune regulation and inflammation. CD30 activation triggers signaling pathways involved in cell proliferation, survival, and cytokine production, contributing to the modulation of immune responses. Aberrant CD30 expression is associated with various lymphoproliferative disorders, including Hodgkin's lymphoma, anaplastic large cell lymphoma, and other malignancies. Therapeutically, CD30 has emerged as a promising target for antibody-based immunotherapy, such as antibody-drug conjugates, which selectively deliver cytotoxic agents to CD30-expressing tumor cells, demonstrating efficacy in the treatment of CD30-positive malignancies. Understanding the multifaceted roles of CD30 in immune regulation and disease pathogenesis holds significance for the development of targeted therapies and precision medicine approaches in oncology and immunology.
